Neighbor Wars on TV

Postby Bob on Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:00 pm

High Noon is a production firm on the west coast producing a show on neighbor dispute resolution, and its casting director reached out to me about hosting. As you know, I'm not a fan of how TV treats the subject, but this is a big-name shop, its show has been bought by a design network (they're not disclosing whether it's HGTV, TLC or similar at this time), and I'm going to look into this. I welcome all cautionary comments.

This might be the only chance to get the subject matter out there & have it fairly/properly addressed.

I aggree, we need someone on our side to show that NFH are the perpetrators. Engaging them on their terms only makes us fools by playing their sick game. A normal reaction from an outsider who doesn't have to endure this crap we all live will say something like "give it back". And once we do,they've got us right where they want us. This is all a game to them and the only way to win is to not play the game. That's how I got my NFH arrested for stalking.

You only get a few mins of TV time to make your case, and the best evidence is video evidence. I wouldn't go on there unless I was sure my vids told my side of the story. Hopefully the neighbor doesn't know about it and is as surprised as the audience to see himself skulking around doing whatever.

Like I always say, if it's a silly show that doesn't aim for fixing problems (including FIXING the bad neighbors), it's not for me.

As a host, I'd wind up getting very confrontational, on camera, with bad neighbors, the third parties they involve in their harassment, the do-nothing authorities who worsen the plight of the rest of us, and even enablers in the community who don't want to endure what they see others go thru by complaining.

Oh, what a show it would be.

Maybe you could help influence it in the right direction though. Nothing gets better unless someone steps up.

If hosting, I'd certainly carry that influence. If not, producers don't tend to care about that end -- they want a good show, not a socially responsible show. I believe both can be had. Perhaps this'll be that.

One producer got it EXACTLY right on the show "NUM3ERS" aired Friday, 3/12/10. The lead up descriptions of the NFH actions were spot-on. The stress, the fear, the mental turmoil, the torn fabric of family life, the neighborhood disruptions caused by a skulking, devious NFH operating under the radar were all perfectly outlined.

The NFH actor played the part so perfectly that the viewers (at least me) were rooting for the kid to pull the trigger in order to permanently end the misery with a single bullet in the sneering, taunting face of evil.

I think I'll buy the season DVD's next year for this one episode alone.

(BTW, where did the "NFH in the Media" sub-forum go?)
I'm the one making the "noise" at police dept, zoning dept, engineering dept, city clerk, city council, county recorder, county health, and now in county court. Ongoing, uphill NFH experience detailed at http://way2noisy.blogspot.com

I'll have to YouTube that episode.

Can't recall where the NFH in the Media subforum was to begin with. Wasn't that a part of the old web site?
