NFH web site being re-evaluated

Explore the issues, argue your points. This is more of a free-for-all, not for the faint-of-heart. Good neighbors can disagree on the finer points of issues, and politeness and political correctness are not primary concerns.

NFH web site being re-evaluated

Postby Bob on Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:06 pm

I just overhauled NeighborsFromHell.com in November when the book came out, but I'm reviewing it now for an upgrade. On the tech end, the frameset makes it difficult for search engines to find. But design-wise, some of you offered comments late last year that I digested and am considering for the upgrade. Critics noted the needless scroll, for instance.

Please offer anything else at this time, and let's debate whether I should focus the site's identity/brand on:
Neighbors From Hell (book title)
Neighbor Solutions (more positive - help-oriented)
Good Neighbors Rule (my slogan, aiming to bolster the ever-shortening list of good neighbors out there)

I own all 3 domains, among others, and all will point to the same site. But what should the mood be?

"Neighbors From Hell" gets to the heart of the subject matter, it's what I googled to get here (prior to knowing about the book) when looking for NFH solutions.

I can see how "Neighbor Solutions" is friendlier, but might be offering something that can't be delivered.

I agree with xyz!

Also, by the time someone googles "NFH" or "Neighbor From Hell", it is usually past the point of there being a "solution" or "resolution". It was four years into my NFH problem when I went "searching" on the net. I believe that the "good neighbor underclass" feel that things will get better (or resolved), but it's only a matter of time before they realize that will not happen. By the time reality sinks in, it's a matter of desperation that makes them look (on the net) for others going through a similar situation(s).

Three years ago I landed in an all-out mess that was already twenty years old. Due to the city's bungling only a few years into it, the neighbors' illegal land use became an entrenched "special privilege."

From a 1954 California Appeals decision: "It has always been assumed that non-conforming uses would gradually eliminate themselves from the district in which they exist if they were not permitted to expand. Such has not proven to be the case. They not merely continue to exist, but to send down deeper roots. They become clear monopolies and special privileges." (emphasis added) [Los Angeles v. Gage, 127 Cal. App. 2d 442 (Cal. App. 1954), footnotes, note 2.]

The only possible solution was to initiate an individual lawsuit.

I agree with the others so far - I came upon the Neighbors From Hell website in desperate times. The other ideas are good, but do not answer the need of those losing their grip on life or sanity because of the hellions behind, next to, across from, above, below,... whatever.
I'm the one making the "noise" at police dept, zoning dept, engineering dept, city clerk, city council, county recorder, county health, and now in county court. Ongoing, uphill NFH experience detailed at http://way2noisy.blogspot.com
