Complaining about one’s pet often comes with a less-than-friendly tone, the reason being that the dog is left out barking overnight,
the cat is digging up neighbors’ plant beds to poop, the pet owners are failing to clean up after the animals, and the increased
popularity of keeping reputedly dangerous pets. Meanwhile, on the receiving end of the complaint is someone whose pet is often an
extension of himself or herself. Criticism of the
pet equals a personal attack on many people, especially when the complaint is raised in a less-than-friendly manner.
